VU fans will mostly be pulling for Auburn because we want to see Tennessee continue to implode, of course, but is an Auburn win really best for our interests? One school of thought says that you don’t want to play a team the week after a big loss, and I think that’s generally true. So in that regard I think a convincing Auburn win is a good thing — gets them overconfident, keeps them from getting questioned all week in the local media, etc.
I generally want teams we have yet to play to look as bad as possible, because I want an easier future schedule, but we play both of these so that criterion doesn’t matter here.
I do think, however, there’s a small chance that the dysfunctional offense they had against State comes back to haunt them all season. So I suppose if Tennessee were to win, or at least to thwart Auburn enough to keep the game close, I’d want to see Tony Franklin’s offense sputter really badly like it did in that 3-2 epic.
Now for the really big game today (for everyone but CBS)…. Via the Georgia Sports Blog, here’s a really great analysis of Knowshon Moreno’s running vs. Arizona State and what to look for from Alabama from Dr. Saturday, formerly Sunday Morning QB. Very few people can explain football tactics so I can understand them, so Dr. Saturday deserves some teaching awards if not the department chair. However, it’s duly noted that all the GSB commenters are pretty confident that UGa won’t be using the same plays today. We’ll see.

I’m gonna use this as an open thread to discuss the day’s action. Feel free to jump in if you’re reading.
Ole Miss is hanging with Florida, although it seems to be more about Florida’s mistakes than anything. But at least OM is capitalizing, and UF’s offense looks really pedestrian right now.
Duke beat UVa 31-3, which doesn’t surprise me but does back up my assertion (stolen from Phil Steele) at the beginning of the year that Duke would be a lot better. Of course I didn’t expect VU to be better than last year, so I thought we might struggle with the Devils.

I was about to make a snide comment about Snead losing his job to McCluster, but he hit a TD as I was writing.
Keep it up, Jevan! I have faith in you! (Let’s meet up in the SEC Championship Game so Ryan Hamilton can eat your lunch again.)

Ole Miss in victory formation now. Congrats to the Rebels. See, some weeks you “give” your opponent the game, and some weeks they “give” it to you. Still a huge win for OM and for VU.

Florida fan says we’re better than UF right now:

(Based on our one common opponent, I’d have to agree. Two messy games, but we won on the road and Florida lost at home. They’re gonna drop quite a bit in my SECPP of course.)
