Gut-wrencher / Best player’s foul trouble

March 28th, 2009 · No Comments

If you’re reading this you probably know by now that Maryland ended up beating Vanderbilt 78-74, with the Terps’ first lead coming with 1:01 in the game. This comment in my Twitter feed says it all: “Sorta reminds me of Gtown-VU MBB when we just took it to a favored opp from start.” [...]

Sweet Sixteen miscellany

March 28th, 2009 · No Comments

Of course for me the biggest Vanderbilt sports event of the week is the regional semifinal game in Raleigh that tips off in about 30 minutes versus Maryland. The more I think about it the more scared our lack of size makes me. So far the team’s managed to overcome this [...]

Fast start for the women

Christina Wirth - Image shamelessly stolen from Gary Stepic, VU official site
Vanderbilt women’s basketball looked really impressive in thumping Western Carolina 73-44. Wirth scored about a third of our points. I’ll try the Pomeroy thing — pace in number of possessions must have been, uh, shot attempts minus offensive rebounds plus [...]

Women’s NCAA an other thoughts

March 21st, 2009 · No Comments

Last night starting with this post about Memphis [...]

Obviously even without the ‘Dores and with only one SEC team I can pull for in clear conscience, I’m still pretty obsessed with the NCAA.   So I decided it was a good time to start a Twitter account for sports-related stream of consciousness that doesn’t really lend itself to whole blog posts.
I’m also warming [...]

Err, never mind

In a concerted and effective effort to make me look silly, the Slive committee bent over backwards to seed SEC teams low.   Thanks a lot, Mr. Commissioner!

Naiveté, thy name is Clark: Selection Sunday reflections

March 15th, 2009 · No Comments

Since Vanderbilt is a long way removed from this year’s NCAA men’s field, and in my opinion probably not even going to make the NIT, it’s a good time to dwell on long-held resentment.   During the Big Ten Tournament final, Clark Kellogg (I think) just implied that it’s wrong to believe that personal bias influences [...]

End-of-basketball-season stream of consciousness

March 8th, 2009 · 3 Comments

I’d be remiss not to post something on the great run of form both Vanderbilt basketball teams have exhibited since the middle of February.  Game-related details really aren’t my thing so I don’t have much to offer about the actual games.   In the overall, though, I’m quite satisfied with the way both teams have performed [...]
