S Carolina - Vanderbilt: You can blame me for that one

January 28th, 2009 · 1 Comment

I was driving from Memphis to Huntsville when the game started, so I happened to catch the first 12 minutes or so on XM.   After trading baskets early Carolina shot out to a 26-13 lead, and with the score 26-15 I made a stop to visit family.   It sounded like just more of the Florida [...]

Youth = suffering

January 27th, 2009 · 3 Comments

We’re obviously not a very good men’s basketball team right now.   The causes of this state of affairs are pretty well-understood — essentially, they boil down to extreme inexperience and injuries to AJ Ogilvy — so there’s no need to belabor them.
I’m not worried about the future of this program, although I can imagine this [...]

Reminder that Stallings is a much wiser coach than he was nine years ago

January 17th, 2009 · No Comments

Kentucky
Florida
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
South Carolina
Mississippi State
LSU
Arkansas
Alabama
Mississippi
Auburn
Georgia

Rankings were mostly in line with Pomeroy’s.  Differences:
(1)  Florida above Tennessee due to my view that, although Florida once
again scheduled a very weak slate of OOC opponents that brings [...]

My best excuse yet for lack of content

January 11th, 2009 · 1 Comment

I’ve been in the hospital since Tuesday; I had a wayward cholecyst — OK, OK, gallbladder but that word’s so inelegant — that one of the surgeons said was among the worst she’d seen.   I was set to get out today but watching that second half at Rupp set my recovery back two days, and [...]
